Spherical Powders

Spherical Powders

Our spherical powder portfolio focuses on advanced alloy systems developed for additive manufacturing, powder-based processing and advanced materials development.

The portfolio includes High-Entropy Alloy Spherical Powders and Refractory Metal & Alloy Spherical Powders, with powder chemistry, particle-size range and morphology tailored to the requirements of the intended application.

For powder-based manufacturing, particle morphology and size distribution are important factors affecting powder handling, flow and packing behavior. Gas-atomization and related powder-production technologies are widely used to produce spherical metal powders for advanced manufacturing.

1. High-Entropy Alloy Spherical Powders

CoCrFeNiMn · CoCrFeNi · AlCoCrFeNi · AlCoCrFeNiTi · CoCrFeNiMo · CoCrNi-based HEAs

Product Overview

High-entropy alloys (HEAs), broadly included within the family of multi-principal-element alloys, use multiple principal elements as the basis of alloy design. This approach creates a large compositional and microstructural design space in which different combinations of strength, ductility, toughness, wear resistance, corrosion resistance and functional properties can be developed.

Because HEA properties are strongly dependent on composition, phase constitution and processing history, we do not present all HEAs as having one universal performance profile. Instead, individual alloy systems can be selected according to the required property combination and manufacturing process.

Key Characteristics

  • Multi-principal-element alloy design

  • Broad compositional flexibility

  • Adjustable strength–ductility balance

  • Alloy-specific wear and corrosion resistance

  • Potential for high-temperature applications

  • Compatibility with advanced powder-processing technologies

Current research continues to expand the range of mechanical, thermal, electronic, magnetic and other functional properties achievable through high-entropy alloy design.

2. Refractory Metal & Alloy Spherical Powders

Mo · Ta · Nb · Re · Zr · V · Ti
TZM · Mo-Ti · Mo-Re · Ta-based · Nb-Ti · Nb-Zr

Product Overview

Refractory metal and alloy powders are intended for applications requiring combinations of high-temperature capability, high melting temperature, thermal stability and specialized mechanical or physical properties.

The performance of each material is highly composition-dependent. Molybdenum and its alloys, for example, are used in high-temperature and thermal-management applications, while tantalum and niobium are important in selected chemical, electronic and high-temperature environments. TZM is a molybdenum-based alloy developed for improved high-temperature mechanical performance compared with unalloyed molybdenum.

A strict scientific definition of “refractory metals” is not completely uniform across the literature. We therefore use Refractory Metal & Alloy as the product-category designation for this portfolio rather than making a universal classification claim for every element listed.
